Molding Veg-Tanned Leather

Vegetable tanned leather has unique properties that allow it to be tooled, stamped, embossed, burnished and molded when wet. We have been working with molds for awhile, but now the interest of our students have encouraged us to expand and offer this as a workshop. Due to the steps involved–wetting the leather, clamping it to the mold, letting it dry, wetting again for tooling, letting it dry, dyeing the leather, letting it dry, trimming and stitching, burnishing and installing hardware, we will be holding this class in 3 sessions of 2 hrs each. If you are interested in all the cool things veg-tanned leathers can do, join us in this class! We’re adding to our molds this week and will have a variety to work with.
