With this set of classes under their belts and with some dedicated practice, students will be able to make a variety of small leather goods used as practice for shoemaking. Focus will be on cutting and skiving edges and refining skills. Once skill levels are improved, footwear classes commence. Two distinct shoemaking techniques will be taught: Lasted and Outstitched. Understanding footwear construction and patterning is a primary goal. Students can add extra time for pattern making or private tutoring if desired at 25% off regular prices. We help students access materials and other resources.
Professional shoemakers in the USA are divided into several groups. Those who make custom footwear for clients including Sneakers and high end shoes. Those who make footwear for movies and theater and those who work for companies that manufacture shoes. Since we do not have an apprenticeship system in the US, wanna be shoemakers rely on occasional classes in colleges and private schools like ours to get their training. At CSOS, we strive to get new shoemakers started on the right track with skills and knowledge, knowing that our training is just the beginning for a professional shoemaker. We encourage students in this program to take the opportunity to create a portfolio of projects they have designed and made.
This package allows the student to schedule classes in any order though we encourage taking them in order to build upon skills. The student will have a dedicated staff member who will help with scheduling and questions. Once the package is purchased, students have 18 months to schedule classes. Other perks: School apron, certificate of completion, early alert to sales and specials. If other leather work classes are of interest, students receive 25% off regular pricing.
